Mix together brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Rub this spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.
Place seasoned pork in slow cooker. Pour chicken broth around the meat. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4–5 hours.
Remove pork from slow cooker and shred with two forks. Discard excess fat. Return shredded meat to slow cooker and mix with BBQ sauce.
Let pork heat in BBQ sauce for 15–20 minutes on low. Serve on hamburger buns with coleslaw if desired.
